Health & Safety Info
July in Albuquerque can be hot (average temp. ~90F/31C) and dry with intense evening thunderstorms during monsoon season. Make sure to bring some form of sun protection (sun glasses, sunscreen, lip balm, sun hat, etc.), drink plenty of water, and bring a light rain jacket/umbrella just in case. In general, the weather here is VERY unpredictable so come prepared for rain, sunshine, heat, and wind! Lastly, Albuquerque and the surroundings areas are over a mile (5280 ft or 1.6 km) high in elevation (Santa Fe at 7200 ft and the VLA at 7000 ft) with less oxygen than at sea level -- so drink plenty of water and make sure to rest if you feel out of breath.
Albuquerque is a big city and has its fair share of property crime, so make sure to lock things up and don’t leave valuables visible in your car. In case of emergency, call 911 or locate a blue emergency phone station that are spread around the UNM campus.
